The Harare Herald made an interesting article on the fact that a summit involving all the PAN AFRICAN liberation movements of southern Africa, is taking place today, of all revolutionary parties, MPLA ZANU PF AND ANC to name a few, all share a common history in fighting colonaliasim and working to build an independent society based on the principle of majority rule.
The summit provides a good oppotunity to share experience not only from the trenches but also the experience of government, looking ahead to the future, the fraternal parties will also evaluate the current challanges ahead, such as the development of the independent economy, and political stability.

ZANU as a grass roots movement reflects the political ethics and cultural ethics of the majority of the people of Zimbabwe, while there may be some aspects of Zimbabwean politics that may seem strange to a westener, most people can relate to the correlation between agriculture and development beacuse there is an obvious link to this regardless of what cultural herritage you inherit, and regardless of where you live, regardless of the colour of your skin, your creed, political views, your gender or your sexual orientation among other things, few people can agrue about the central role agriculture plays for in the over all development of society.
Suggestions up for discussion on what to include in a new constitution

in the case of a new consitution being drawn and accepted by the public
the party ZANU PF have already started suggesting themes and topics on what to include in this proposed new constitution if it becomes a reality, some questions seem to be more peripheral compared to others, among other things the number of terms for a President among other things, but never the less the party has provided a new angle to the importance of agrarian revolution by stating in the Herald today March 14, the importance that the consitution must express the need for the state to guard the gains of the revolutionary struggle. Harare Pronvince ZANU chairman Cde. Midzi explained: "The district chairpersons will collect the document and distribute it among members. The position paper contains our thoughts as a party on various issues that we need to be in the new constitution,"
the policy paper also reveals that the party is of the opinion that:
"The liberation war was fought to regain land. Therefore, the State has the obligation to compulsorily acquire land for resettlement purposes, compensation for the land acquired should be borne by the former colonial masters,"

the policy paper also makes clear that the party suggest that the constitution shouls ensure individual rights such as
Rights to life, liberty, security, freedom of speech, education, political rights, agricultural land, protection of law right to property and right to information.
A new phase in Zimbabwes society building?

ZANU also see it as important to maintain and safeguard african cultural norms, some of which differ from traditional western norms, however one must always remember that the Republic of Zimbabwe is an indpendent state and that the people of zimbabwe have fought for their sovereign right to self government. Now the delibrations and suggestings for a new phase in Zimbabwean society building is on the way.
The role of the solidarity movement

as bystanders, within the solidarity movement we can only hope that everything works out for the best and that the purposed new consitution if it happens correnspondes well to the social, political, cultural and spiritual needs of the Zimbabwean people, or at least the overwhelming majority, as solidarity workers we must remeber we can embrace the Zimbabwean people and support their inalienable right to self goverment, but we cannot decide what is suitable what may or may not be suitable to include in the constitution, we can only put our faith in the that they will decided what is suitable for them and accept this. It obvious of course that Zimbabweans who know their own culture better than we do.

Suggestion: No to the Prime minister, but yes to the Council of Cheifs

according to the policy paper with suggestions for the new constitution ZANU [P.F.] suggest Executive President as Head of State and Government and Commander in Cheif should after being elected be authorised to appoint one or two vice presidents, however the party suggests that there should be no prime ministers, however the party suggests that the right to african traditional Cheif representation should continue to be maintained through the council of Cheifs.

One can make the neccisary conclusion that PM Tsvangirai in recent times has grown as a politician putting behind personal and meaningless squabbles and focusing on genuine development and people centred issues, As it seems this man will no longer allow himself to become a mouth piece for imperialism or be used to plant seeds of disccord in independent African republic, it will be interesting to see how the western camp wil react to this change - will he now like the president be put on the eu/us sanction list and be prohibited from visiting the western bloc?

President of the Islamic Republic Dr. Ahmadinejad remains committed to the idea of maintaining and thus also expanding the already blossoming cultural and trade exchange between the two nations and people’s and more over the Islamic Republic remains a staunch supporter of the Zimbabwean People’s right to self government and the anti illegal sanctions line subscribed to by the Non Aligned movement world expanding and multilateral organisation that the Islamic Republic of Iran, just like the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Lao PDR among others are members.

The fruitful cooperation between Zimbabwe and Iran which has been not only maintained but expanded under Dr. Ahamdinejad’s administration shows that too countries despite cultural differences and each with it’s own characteristic style of governance can still find common ground for unfettered and unconditional cooperation in all sphere’s of development founded on the basic principles of mutual respect and mutual benefit.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has an unwavering position on this matter which remains solid and unchanged despite pressure from the imperialist camp in the west, this indicates the strong anti imperialist nature not only of the iranian revolution as such but on the dynamic force of the anti imperialist organisation that is the non aligned movement as a whole. As such the Non aligned movement was and remains a strong guarantor for peace and justice in the world more so than any other block past or present, as it embraces the cultural and social diversity of all nation founded on the principles of mutual respect and non interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.
It is wonderful to see how the Iranians still remain this committed to the interantional solidarity across national and cultural boarders

The Herald 12 of March 2010 reported that the The New Vice President of The Independent Republic of Zimbabwe today held an important one day workshop on the importance of economic stability in the development of the countries economy.

In being a skilled agitator and a veteran revolutionary and a long time serving politician Cde Nkomo remains well aware of the need of being pragmatic in correlations to questions concerning politial economy yet the Hon. VP is also aware of the vital importance of the fact that a popular leader must never to compromise the revolutionary ideals of self reliance, independence and the principle of always putting the people first, I.E regardless of goverment position a true leader must never forget the grass roots.

Thus there was two key issues in VP Nkomos presentation the one hand was the question of maintaining economic stability through stimualting parastatals, on the other how to maintain a dynamic development of the economy through investment without compromising the empowerment policies and the people centered economy programmes spearheaded by the revolutionary grass roots movement.

A curious reader may find the situation peculiar but in the face of the illegal sanctions there is no straight path to walk down for the Zimbabwean people, for as VP Nkomo explained well functioning Parastatals are vital for survival, yet investment from abroad cannot be totally ignored either.

Under the auspice of creative leadership from the likes of Cde Nkomo coupled with the comittment en masse from all corners all public strata in every region, the Zimbabwean will surely overcome any ordeal that might cross their path, a people united can never be defeated.

Zimbabwe finds herself in a dynamic phase of economic development right now, but it is almost totally ignored by the progressive minded people world wide.

made by Comrade Zuma to the Duke of Edinburgh and Her Majesty The Queen of England on his visit to the UK.

Introduction

In his remarks on a banquet hosted by the Duke Of Edinburgh and Her Majesty the Queen of England - The President of South Africa- Comrade Zuma spoke frankly of the fact that South Africa is a multi ethnic and vibrant democracy. He made some very important remarks to the duke and the queen which I wish to dwell on a bit further.

Now contrary to common belief The South African people are not hostile to towards the bretons per se, it’s only that they like for instance the Chinese value their hard won independence and wish to be treated with respect and not as a colony. Comrade Zuma made clear that there is no general hostility or atagonistic sentiments between the people at large. Instead Zuma made clear of the historical bond between the people of south africa and the people of britian and how the people of the UK were also comitted in the Anti Apartheid struggle.

A Profound Speech

What Cde. Zuma explained while thanking the rulers of britain for the invite and proposing his toast may look like a guest sucking up to his caretakers but it was indeed a rather profound message. What Cde. Zuma meant and was aiming at is that the british can no longer look down upon the South African nation as a "meer colony" or "ophan nation" but rather the British must fully estimate South Africas potential as a dynamic nation and a reliable partner on world arena. When the ANC president is speaking of partnership it is ofcource implied that there is need to recongise that all states are equal in the world, and that people all over the world yern for peace and understanding. If you ask me this is what Zuma surely was aiming at, and this is what makes his toast remarks so profound, this is what makes these remarks more than just beautiful words.

South Africa's Desire for international cooperation does not have to contradict

the pursuiting of the Democratic Revolution on a national level

I.E. What we see from the South African experince is that pursuiting the democratic revolution on a national lever does not have to mean you shun all forms of co operation. What it does mean is that you value cooperation on the basis of mutual benifit and respect, Thus to be frank, fact is as such the South africans, like the namibians and zimbabwians, who all pursuit a revolutionary cause all love international cooperation, what they gaurd against is blind exploitation and unfettered globalisation.

Back to what Comrade Zuma actually said that faithful day the 3rd of March

”There are many South Africans of British descent. The culture, language, institutions, practices and values of this nation have left a distinctive imprint on South African life. There are many South Africans living and working in the United Kingdom. There are even more Britons living and working in South Africa. This enriches the strong diplomatic ties and healthy economic relations between our two countries.

Your Majesty,

Our country has done well since the demise of apartheid and the dawn of freedom and democracy 16 years ago. We have a strong and vibrant democracy, and treasure our freedom, non-racialism and civil liberties, as a people who fought so hard against oppression and racial domination. United in our diversity, we pride ourselves on being one of the most multi-cultural societies in the world. We are also making significant progress in working to eradicate poverty and to improve the quality of life of all our people, especially the poor.”

What Comrade Zuma aims at is the fact that in the end, in all our endevours we are all human.

This is why Comrade Zuma according to me matches the criteria of a true international statesman, just like his Zimbabwean collegue RG. Mugabe and his predecessors Motlanthe, Mbeki and Mandela.

The Creation of Decent Work for All People - the Central Economic Priority

Speaking directly to three of the most powerful people in the UK, The Queen, the Duke and the Prime Minister, Comrade Zuma, although always polite wasted no time on idle small talk. In his speech he proved he is a comitted politician at home and abroad and continued with saying:

”The fight against poverty therefore remains at the heart of all our efforts. The creation of decent work for all our people is a central economic priority. We have a clear plan of how to achieve these goals and also want our efforts yield results faster. Externally, South Africa is also committed to contributing to the quest for a better Africa and a better world. We work with Africa and other development partners in towards the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals on the continent. In this regard, we acknowledge the contribution of the government of the United Kingdom, non-governmental organisations and the business community for their commitment to the development and growth of the African continent.”

Zuma a revered international statesman

In many ways the tone of Comrade Zumas speech embodies the spirit of self reliance and pride of the whole post colonial continent, like Mugabe in Zimbabwe one can sense that this man lives and breaths Ubuntu, and this surely must have left a deep impression on the leaders of The United Kingdom. The Colonial Sun set a long time ago, it’s time to see South Africa for what it really is an independent and vibrant democratic and multiethnic republic, which is evidently playing an increasingly progressive role on the world arena, not only within regional organisations like SADC, COMESA and AU but also multilateral international ones like the UN and th Nam and Forum for China Africa cooperation.

These remarks in combination with the above stated proves that after Zuma accended from party president to the Highest office in the Republic I.e State President he still remains true to his words.

For those unfamiliar to the subject, let it just be noted in a very few words that aside from working to strenghten political stability and broad unity in the nation the Goverment also is spearheading a new economic plan to counter the effects of th illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by it’s former colonial master an her allies.

As a minister of mining Comrade Mpofu spoke with clarity on the subject that Zimbabwe as a nation was very rich in minerals and that a mining boom is to expect in the near future. Not only is 60 minerals under the control of the state, but apart from these there are good prospects for a new impetus as far as investments and fair trade are concered.

This can be concluded not only from Comrade Mpofu speech but also from the recent successes of the Empowerment law, which was passed in the parliament recently.

Also Worth noting is what Comrade Joice Mujuru the Vice President said at a UN meeting last year signified the need of political economy to always remain pragmatic and to remain with the aims at adjusting social injustices as a main goal in the face of a world economic crisis. Comrade Joice Mujuru expressed this in the following words: in the recent past, driven by blind faith in the virtues of the market, the role of the state in the regulation of the economy was reduced. Reality has now dawned on many that the role of government is more pertinent, than ever in regulating financial systems, both at national and international levels. It is therefore important that developing countries be given the freedom to choose the best mix of policies to offset this crisis given their unique and individual social, political, economic and environmental conditions."

What Comrade Mpofu suggested above is in line with the same reasoning, social justice remains at heart of the people centered politics, as does the question of independence and self reliance. At the same time the government remains sober and pragmatic when it comes to the role that investment can play in the economic development, but naturally investment is subordinated to the importance of over all empowerment, and no foreign investment is never pursuited without taking fair trade and mutual cooperation into account, this meassure is a clever move as it gaurds the revolutionary government from falling into the trap that is neo colonialism.

A Sunday Mail reporter in article publiced on the herald.co.zw 7th-8th of march., which brought the readers a story from a church service in Zimbabwe attended not only by members of the Ruling party but from all parties within the inclusive government. What was the occasion you might ask

The occasion was to honour the memory of the late Susan Tsvangirai, the wife of the Prime Minister of Zimbabwe . MDC T leader and former trade union leader Morgan Richard Tsvangirai. Susan Tsvangirai passed away one year ago in a car accident.

Other than being a beautiful memorial service it turned out to be a great day for unity and peace in Zimbabwe.

Speaking at the occasion was Cde RG. Mugabe first secretary of ZANU [PF] and Head of State and Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe, who addressed the crowd with a slice of wisdom saying that there was need for Zimbabweans to reflect over the fact that humanity precedes politics.

Taking time to further elaborate on the subjectThe President thus said:

"despite the political coats that we are always wearing, we are humans first and foremost. Politics come and go, but our ubuntu remains. We have one common denominator, we are one people and we are grateful for that”

The above stated comes in a time when the President along with all other political leaders in the inclusive goverment have encouraged all people to shun political violence which plays more in the hands of the imperialist devide and rule policies than furthering the development of the country.

While still in the church the president who is a principled revolutionary as much as he is a devoted catholic talked about one of his favourite subjects - the dynamic relationship between the church and state in Zimbabwe, as he underlined the need that political and religious leaders work together, for the growth of the all around society, in the same way as political parties in zimbabwe work together for a broad unity in all sphere's of development.

”While Government takes care of society’s other needs, it is the Church that is charged with the nation’s spiritual growth and well-being. Today’s youths should be taught the importance of ubuntu and that is the duty of the Church."

he continued by saying:

“Schools ensure that the youths’ academic side of education is taken care of, but the Church is charged with developing their spiritual needs.”

in the end although the memorial service was due to the loss of a loved one , it is obvious that yesterday’s service brought a new sense of hope to everyone who attended.

The spirit of Ubuntu surely is alive and well in all sphere's in Zimbabwean society, and as such the President also made clear that political voilence is not to anyones benefit.

The President's speech echoed that of the time when he addressed the mourners at the memorial service that coincided with the funeral of Mrs Tsvangirai last year when he said:

'This is the hand of God.

'To our supporters we want to say violence should stop. That's what (Mrs) Tsvangirai would have wanted, for us to co-exist peacefully.

'We have just started a new life after years of fighting each other and insulting each other. We have said let's give peace and harmony a chance and work together.'

The Year 2010 or Juche 99 according to the DPRK calendar obviously seems to be a year of hope for the korean people, a year for development and socialist construction, for progress and for peace. The general populace who are still frustrated by the ever present treath of war that remains beacuse of the U.S. troops ' unwillingness to sign a peace treaty and leave the peninsula has been a treath to peace since the end of the 1940's and continues to treathen the political stability of the whole region even today. If we read the new year editorial published on Korean news agency KCNA we still have evidence that the korean people are comitted towards development and progress in a way that seems uneffected by the quagmire the people finds itself in due to the overhanging war treath.

As such the new years editorial stated

"New Year Juche 99 (2010) is a year of general offensive, when all-Party and nationwide efforts should be concentrated on improving the people's standard of living on the basis of the laudable victory and achievements of the great revolutionary upsurge.

Kim Jong Il said:

"Our building of the country into an economic giant is aimed, to all intents and purposes, at radically improving the people's standard of living. When the people's living standards are decisively improved, hooray for socialism and singing of Arirang of prosperity can ring out louder across the country and the gate to a prosperous nation be opened."

In the meantime in the midst of all celebration of the successes in socialist contruction that was evident also in the recent celebration of Marshall Kim Jong Il's birthday in february, difficulties facing the country are also evident, internally broad unity and love of peace is the most common experience of the korean people, but in the south side of the country, which remains under occupation by U.S forces, the sense of war treath hanging over the region remains aparent. Thus Beijing review reported recently, that the US. ARMY recently advanced military drills and excercises that have been precieved by the koreans as nothing else other than preparation for invasion, which could pose a serious treath to the cease fire treaty of 1953.

The DPRK although a developing country has been forced to put a large amout of it resources of defence mechanisms including nuclear war deterrents who are very costly, i.e we are talking about resources that would have been more useful elsewhere if the war treath was not as aparent as it is today.

The Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army reported that all people must be prepared for warfare if anything happens,

as the war treath has been hanging in the air for a long time.

Yet when I look upon the recent developments in Korea, I would want to focus on the positive. Then I look up to what was expressed by Marshal Kim Jong Il the Chairman of the korean military commission.

His notes on the future plans for korea and for the general development and improvment of the living standards of all people, is great news.

Let us all hope that the Korean people's wishes to pursuit peaceful socialist construction can continue without restrains of further treaths of imperialist invasion.

The above mentioned so called "drill" is said to be planned to last until the 18th of March.

Comrade Nyoni on the Importance Grass Roots Development

For any progressive minded person, or for anyone genuinely interested in development, One could take time to read about Comrade Nyoni of Zimbabwe who apart from having the a merit as a minister for Small and Medium Enterprise for the ZANU P.F led government of Zimbabwe, she also has a merit of being a comitted worker rular devolpment on grass roots level.

As a figurehead for the Organisation of Rural Associations for Progress of Zimbabwe Comrade Nyoni recieved the Right Livelihood Award in the Swedish Parliament in 1993. In the Acceptance speech, Comrade Nyoni reflected over the meaning of a people cntered outlook on development as she said "Winning this award is a reflection of the quality of people I work with and the Communities we serve. It is an honour not only for me personally but also for all the women of Zimbabwe, particularly the rural women who have taught me to be wise and patient but above all to be a strategist.

We are delighted that our conviction that a people's culture is an essential mobilising tool for development has received this International recognition. Indeed for us, this is the rootedness, the culturally appropriate path to development. We have pursued it for the last 12 years. This approach gives authenticity and power to the people. As major experts in their own culture, people thus take control of their development theory and practice."

Reflections on recent news on the sanctions issue by Jan Freidun Taravosh

In recent days President Mugabe suggested to Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, the honourable Prime Minister of Zimbabwe to plan a trip and set up a team to take the dicussion of the removal of sanctions directly to the EU and the U.S.

Speaking on the Topic of The Prime ministers recent anti sanctions statement, the President commented in Friday’s Herald:

”It is a good statement. He has done a good thing. It must be pursued. We would want to see him setting up a team that he believes can be effective in dealing with the sanctions.

It need not be a large team but an effective one to go to Europe and America. We, under the GPA, are expected to set up a joint team and we did so, but Europe said no to it. They would not receive it.”

The President has further adviced the Prime minister to summon a team on this diplomatic mission as the Western sanctions list prohibits members from the ZANU (P.F.) party to travel to the EU and U.S. on a regular basis.

Comrade Zuma forwarded his message to the ruling circles of the U.K. on a recent state trip, a message that echoed similiar statements already proclaimed by the SADC, African Union and the Nam. Yet Prime Minister Brown is still acting nochalant and he still thinks he has the right to set demands on the soverign nation about ”more progress” before sanctions are lifted. The strange thing this results in is that the former colonial power still treats Zim as if it was a colony. In reality the UK has no place in setting up demands or conditions towards the independent republic, and while other nations like Italy, Denmark and even the Kingdom of Sweden are becoming increasingly more open for cooperation, (see the ARTICLE ON THE BEAM PROJECT )

it is puzzeling to see how the rulers of Britain, are so stubborn in remaining in the past.

Ever since the first days of the revolution Education has been a high priority for Zimbabwean revolutionaries. This is dating back to the time of liberated zones in the then british colony Rhodesia to the establishment of the republic of Zimbabwe under the leadership of the patriotic front. As a young developing country resources have been scarce since the imposion of illegal sanctions and the government has been working hard to find alternative ways for funding, which has now entered a new phase. The goverment in conjuction with the unicef and other humanitarian organisations such as the Swedish International Development agency have now prepared a programme under the auspice of BEAM the basic education assistance module. All in All 30 million US dollars has been availed to cover education cost, examination fees and tuition fees as well as education for children with special needs

IT’s obvious that what we see now is progress in the midst of much difficulty

Zimbabwe government online and the ministry for labour social services indicate that apart from the already troubling sanctions, the educational sector has had other problems in recent years.

”A host of challenges have dogged the education sector in Zimbabwe over the past decade, chief among them dwindling resources from central government and the exodus of teachers to neighbouring countries, mainly South Africa.  The challenges have not been divorced from the illegal sanctions imposed on the country”

The BEAM project clearly is a much needed measure that will inject new life in the sector in a way that is needed to secure the furthure development of the society, this programme will certainly provide new impetus for civil servants at all levels to work more dynamicly for the empowerment of the youth. This does not take away the problems that has appeared due to sanctions as the current situation the country finds itself in can never be separated this reality, however it is never theless a creative meassure that opens up for new oppotunities especially for the most vunerable, the children with special needs.

The BEAM project shows that even in the most difficult times, all does not have to be lost

with comittment a geniune people’s government can do alot for it’s people despite the fact that the central government has been effected by dwindling resources, it’s a matter of priority, and economic planning, it requires the leadership to be pragmatic and to think outside of the box.

Even more remarkable is the fact, that the victory of the revolution in Iran also has opened up for a broader and deeper exchange with other Non aligment movement countries in the feilds of infrastructure and agriculuture development. such as Zimbabwe, Cuba Venezuela and other progressive nations. It's nice to see that a state is so comitted to working together not only across national boarders but also cultural boarders.

Deputy Minister of Argicultural Jihad Dr. Peiman Falsafi a man of principle also informed that the nations farmers have already produced 100 million tons of argiculture products this year.

The Iranians show us that with comittment, miracles can be achieved even under harsh conditions such as embargos, illegal sanctions and an overhanging treath of imperalist invasion.

TalkZimbabwe.com had a delightful report on the fight against sanctions today as they reported that ANC leader and Republic of South Africa President Comrade Zuma arrived in heathrow for talks with Queen of England and the Duke of Edinburgh tomorrow and Prime Minister Gordon Brown.On a state visit representing the People of the Republic of South Africa meeting the rulers of the kingdom, Zuma also acts as a noble international statesman in bringing the subject of illegal sanctions and the embargo towards Zimbabwe to the table, in an interview with financial times upon arrival the President said: It's going to be difficult [for the government] to get on with other matters if there are sanctions, because sanctions are one-sided.   "We have a government that's not treated equally by sanctions. Those who cannot travel freely feel that they are constrained."

The economic embargo towards Zimbabwe is like the similiar embargos towards independent and revolutionary countries like Cuba, I.R Iran and the DPRK a plot from the imperial camp to try and interfere in the affairs of indpendent goverments. It’s great to see some one take action and it’s great to see that the Zimbabwean people are not alone in their struggle. Let's hope that The former colonial power can remain cordial and respectful relationship with the former colonies of Southern Africa. Meeting the ruling elite of the united kingdom is no easy task.

Ever since Comrade Pohamba was elected to take over the stewardship of the SWAPO party after legend Comrade Nujoma or ”Father of the Namibian revolution” decided to retire the Western media has been awfully quiet on the progress of the Namibian Revolution since Comrade Pohamba took over the leadership despite the fact that the party has kept on winning landslide victories and the government has achieved progress in agriculture and education and despite Comrade Nujomas exit from politics political stability has at a large scale been maintained.

The Soviet Connection?

According to his portfolio on SWAPOPARTY.ORG it is stated that Comrade Pohamba has educated himself in political science and leadership in the USSR in the early 80’s. Some may wonder if this is why the western media wants to keep quiet of his sucess as a leader?

The Mugabe Connection?

At a different front he is often decribed as a subdued ally” of President Mugabe another things which might make the west un easy. Yet never mind that why not just recognise the fact that under Pohambas leadership the party has made great strides in development and in one simple stroke they have also beaten the 8 party opposition in the country, due to the fact that they mainstain support at grass roots level, these things never happen by accident

An ordinary guy

Another thing that is comrade pohambas strenght is that other than being just a man of principle he is also a pragmantic man comitted 100% to peace and development, he is popular because in the end he is not ”a great leader” in any other way than that he always was and remains and ordinary guy, a man of the people, with hobbies such as: Hobbies: Reading, political debates, watching football, traditional music and dance. Everybody can relate to him.

An international statesman

In 2008 addressing the UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY Comrade Pohamba also showcased that he is , at his very most an international statesman.

” Peace and security as well as social just ice are paramount to the achievement of MDGs and

resolution of conflicts. In this regard, all countries must commit themselves to implement

policies that promote economic growth, social justice, rule of law, democracy, respect for human

rights and the protection of the environment in order to guarantee durable peace and security.”

No need to compare him to Nujoma

Nujoma may always remain the legend the father of the revolution, yet Pohamba should not be littered or ignored in the press, he is perhaps one of the best popular leaders active on the seen today.

Why the media continue to ignore this fact, remains a mystery too me. The SWAPO led government of Nambia has not been weakened since Nujoma passed the baton, why are the western media upholding this illusion?

Maybe Pohamba really is a ”subdued leader”

Maybe he is not always in the lime light? But is this a bad thing? Would a cult of personality be better? What’s important is that he has always had, and continues to have the people’s interests at heart.

For what it's worth the western media seems unaware that the ZANU (P.F.) party consist of peole other than it's first secretary, one important figure barely mentioned in western press is Comrade Moyo the national Chairman of the party, as a politician he never forgets the party's revolutionary history, but he is also quick to note that this does not mean that ZANU are postitive towards political violence.

Moreover the President explained that Hosting the World cup is a big step in the history for the relativly young nation, which has changed the people around the world look at south africa.

"It must remind us that there is a lot to celebrate about our country. Our successes have made us an inspiration to the world in a manner that many South Africans do not even realise. We have proven to the world that it is possible to emerge from a horrible conflict, and work together as various political parties, to build a successful, peaceful, stable, multiparty constitutional democracy."

In the meantime as we await the start of this great tournament, we can have comfort in the coviction that the tournament is so much more than just a big sports event. May the hosting of the tournament also signify a strong independent and united Africa. In a bid to normalise relations between The Independent Republic of Zimbabwe and western nations. The French ambassador in Zimbabwe was quoted as saying it was high time to normalise relations now. Having said this in a meeting with VP Mujuru this thirsday finds the french government brave enought to attempt to challange the European Union Decree on illegal sanctions against the progressive developing nation. This is most interesting news and we will see what it amounts to in the future.

"Now that Zimbabwe and the EU are engaged in dialogue to normalise relations, we call for the lifting of (illegal) sanctions and we hope this will be achieved soon through the ongoing negotiations. " said Ambassador Contini in an interview

Yesterday marked a wonderful day in the history of the young indepent republic of Zimbabwe, This article will reflect over the fundamental meaning of this agreement.

As journalist Phyllis Johnson put it in her article Lancaster House revisited in marking the 30th anniverisery of the conclussion of the Lancaster Hous agreement. "Thirty years ago, on December 21 1979, an agreement was signed in London that set in motion a series of events that put Zimbabwe on the course to where it is today.

The signatures appended reluctantly to that agreement beneath the chandeliers and subterfuge of Lancaster House ended the war in a place that some called Rhodesia and signalled a different route to independence for a country that the majority called Zimbabwe. "

While the importance of the Lancaster House talks between the Patriotic front as lead by Comrade JoshuaNkomo and Comrade Robert Gabriel Mugabe of Zimbabwe and Colonial Athorities as represented by Prime Minister Tatcher and Lord Carrington, cannot be understade in the context that it brought an end to the protacted struggle and lay the foundation for peace and stability in Zimbabwe. As the Author of the article put it, it should also be noted the specific role the breakthrough of this agreement meant for world politics in general. With the conclusion of an agreement that recognised the Zimbabweans people right to land and independence and self rule - after thought deliberations signalled not only a change in the political situation in Zimbabwe but in truth it was a victory for all the downtrodden people struggling for independence in face of colonial exploitation and imperialist treaths world wide. The independence of Zimbabwe saw the end of a vile apartheid regime in southern africa, and provided new strenght and encourragement for fraternal people's in africa and beyond in the struggle against colonialism and injustice - Hence the Lancaster House agreement must be seen for what it was, it was an agreement where the bourgoise of the colonial athothies of the western world were forced to realise that colonialism was at worlds end and that the african grass roots movements must be recognised as the genuine representatives of the people. In the days of the liberation struggle. The progressive movements of Zimbabwe had simply been written of as barbaric, savage, and marxist terrorists. However as the struggle progressed The colonial athorities and the settler regime came to realise - however reluctantly that according to the people of Zimbabwe the patriotic front was a genuine pan african grass roots movement which could not be underestimated. i.e the lancaster house agreement finally recognised the grass roots movement as the true reprsentatives of the people and it also recognised the leaders of the grassroots movements as true human beings and not as sub human animals.

This is why Lancaster House has such a significant meaning not only to Zimbabweans but to people all over the world struggeling for justice, it teaches that a people united cannot be defeated and that presistent commitment to a just cause eventually recieves recongition, regardless of how dire the situation may seem at times. the Lancaster House Agreement also signalled the need that the british athoroties faced the music and realised the responsiblity the colonial athorities have in commencing the de-colonialisation process and work for peace in the region. Comrade Joshua Nkomo, crystalised the seriousness of this matter in his profound opening speech at the time of negatiotiations when he said: "The Patriotic Front, deeply conscious of the need to bring an end to racism and colonialism which continue to plague the people of Zimbabwe, welcomes the British Government's stated aim to assist in this task of decolonisation. We have come to London to attend this Conference in response to the invitation recently extended to us by you, Mr Chairman, on behalf of the British Government. For us our presence here is by itself an act of immense sacrifice. The scarce material resources we have had to divert and the manpower we must of necessity tie down in London for the duration of this Conference should be enough evidence of our seriousness and good faith. We have always said that we will leave no stone unturned in our struggle for the total liquidation of colonialism in Zimbabwe."

What has the lancaster House Agreement meant for today's Zimbabwe

In today's Zimbabwe the words of the now late Vice President Comrade Joshua Nkomo we will leave no stone unturned in our struggle for the total liquidation of colonialism in Zimbabwe. still live on in modern day Zimbabwe as the people of the Republic continue their struggle for economic empowerment under the banner of consolidating the Third Chimurenga. With the legacy of a protacted liberation struggle and a likewise protracted peace negotiation the Zimbabwean people will never forgotted all the hard work and sacrfice that was required to acheive their hardwon independence. As the People remeber the Lancaster House agreement, they will remember it as a big step in providing the foundation for political stability and peace, yet independence also has an economic dimension, and in remembering Joshua Nkomos words the people of Zimbabwe still remain committed to the total liquidation of colonialism in Zimbabwe. As they people of Zimbabwe derive solace from the history of landmark achievements for political independce as demonstrated by the conclussion of the Lancaster House Agreement they also remain committed to the pursuit of economic empowerment under the banner Zimbabwe will never be a colony again,

The Lancaster House agreement and the dynamic Zimbabwean Revolution (Chimurenga) teaches us that Independce is so much more than mere paper independce. This is a valueble lesson we all can draw from the curragous achievements of the Zimbabwean People who attainted victory not only at the negotiating table but also in the trenches thanks to their persistence, revolutionary unity and never give up attitude under the leadership of the Patriotic Front. Thus Zimbabwe remains a source of inspiration to people struggling for indpendence and justice world wide.

Introduction:

Konstantin Chernenko who grew up in Siberia during the serfdom of then Czarist Russia, uses the book Human rights in Soviet Society to provide the reader with a deeper understanding of life in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics drawing from the historical experience of the days of Serfdom in the Czarist empire, the the days of the Great October Revolution and socialist construction in the midst of world wars and imperialist pressure during the cold war.

The Author presents even the newcomer to the subject with easy to access information. Although Comrade Chernenko several times refers to author such as Marx and Engels and other soviet leaders such as Brezhnev and Lenin, one does not have to be a specialist in scientific socialism to understand the basic meaning of this book.

Socialism, Capitalism and the Different Views of Human Rights

In introducing the subject the author makes clear the reasons why Human rights is perceived differently in capitalist society and explains what are the basic characteristics of these differences. Against the backdrop of U.S Imperialist vilification campaigns, which relentlessly attacks anything beyond the realms of imperialism. Chernenko explains the basis of this demonising campaign by saying: “Western propagandists try to present imperialism as a champion of democracy, humanness and justice. they lay particular stress on the ‘innate’ rights of man unconcerned with any socio-economic foundation. In turning to the special characteristics of development in soviet society the other does refer briefly to the basic concepts of scientific socialism such as dialectics and historical but does so not in such a way that the text becomes too theoretic, or too hard to access even for novice readers.

The books strength lies in that the book fully reveals a more diversified picture of Soviet government, far beyond the one sided perceptions that persist in the west. For instance the basic structure of the councils is explained, as is the organic unity of rights and duties in Soviet Society, which the author explains by saying the reader may ask on what basis the defenders of human rights make their attacks on socialism. “What they don’t like is the provision of the USSR constitution” which says: ‘Enjoyment by citizen of their rights and freedoms must not be to the detriment of the interests of the society and state or infringe upon the rights of other citizens, They regard the organic unity of citizens’ rights and duties as an ‘intolerable limitation’ of the rights of the individual.

Chernenko answers swiftly to such claims by clarifying that the same relation between rights and duties is clarified in the universal declaration of human rights. In this way cherneko reveals that it is in fact rampant individualism that runs counter to the concept of democracy and human rights, not collectivism which remains a strong foundation for democracy.

An Rare Insight to the Diverse Dynamics of Soviet Society.

By western historians and imperialist, The USSR was and still is (for the most part) referred to as a country isolated from the rest of the world, however Chernenko reveals it’s quite the contrary and apart explaining the basic concepts of governance and life in the USSR. The government structure is explained at state level and grassroots level alike chapters like “All Power to the Soviets” and The organisations of the working people, the dynamic life in the multiethnic society on the basis is being dealt with in the chapter on friendship and fraternity, and one chapter is focused on the emancipation of women. apart from giving the reader a more dynamic insight of soviet society far from the one sided perspective dominant in the west, also proving that The USSR was far from isolated from the western world, comrade Chernenko makes a clear comparison between the electoral system of the United states and Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, having been elected a deputy to the supreme soviet since 1966, the author shows that he knows what he is talking about. At the same time for one thing the truly progressive side of socialism is clarified in a way that it’s rarely talked about - for one thing did you know that the USSR as the first country in the world stipulated laws on sustainable development and environmental protection - and speaking of human rights this book duly clarifies the right to work, the right to education and access to culture as a basic human rights and as such it is a very enlightening and enjoyable read, a book that moves far beyond the prejudice of western imperialism and reveals a different side of the Soviet Union.

Worth nothing is that at a the time of the Cold War demonising campaigns from the imperialist camp were hurled at the Soviet Union - nevertheless Comrade Chernenko stresses the importance of cultural exchange with western nations. As such this book is a true eye opener and I recommend it to anyone.

This development is diversified and versatile but not much attention is given to it in the western media. The western establishment still maintain a very stereotyped and one sided view of Chinese Society.

An in-depth look at Socialism with Chinese characteristics in the 21st century

In his book On The three represents, Comrade Jiang Zemin gives the reader a rare opportunity to get a more in-depth view of the all around development of The People’s Republic China.

as far as the historical development of political theory is concerned Comrade Jiang Refers both to classic works by Marx and Engels such as Critique of the Gotha programme, the communist manifesto and Critique of the political economy and works by other Chinese politicians like Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping, but whether you are an experienced scholar of Scientific Socialism or not “On The three represents” in dealing with the all around development of society speaks to anyone. in turning to the relation between the political leaders and the grass roots movement, Jiang, like Comrade Mao Zedong before him, stresses the relation between the party and the masses, “make in depth studies and investigations of what is really going on, and adopt measures to step up the work and promote party building in a down to earth manner”

The Importance of Engaging Society Building With a Wholesome Perspective

Jiang also stresses social development in a wholesome perspective, in providing guidance for society building

does so in a way which is not heard of that often in the west on page 26. Jiang explains: “We should observe the inherent rules governing the contradictions of the productive forces versus the relation of production and the economic base versus the superstructure during the current stage of historical development and guard against all forms of subjectiveness and one-sidedness so as to do an even better job.”

Turning to political theory Comrade Jiang, stresses that political theory can never be adapted mechanically and stresses how the concept of the three represents, answers to the current phase of development the country finds itself in (see page 29): “in building socialism the Chinese way we do not have written answers to many of the questions involved and we have to seek answers from dissecting and summing up new situations and practices by applying the basic Marxist principles”

While the book may be rare it is never the less an essential read for anyone who wants to have a broader understanding of society building in the People’s Republic of China or scientific socialism in general. Overall development is an ever present theme, for as Comrade Jiang explains “Development is the absolute need this is a strategic concept we must stick to consistently this question should be viewed not only economically but also politically” and more over. “Communism can only be realized on the basis of a fully developed and highly advanced socialist society”

The book is also great because it dispels many stereotyped conceptions of the Chinese people in general and Chinese society in particular. The book is easy to read, and deals with a very timely subject for everyone who wishes to know more about the biggest developing country in the world, the important thought of the three represents was enshrined in the CPC constitution in 2002, as I said you by know means have to be an expert on the subject, a broader understanding of development in the world is to everyone's benefit. to be honest you do not even have to be a socialist or acquainted with the principles of scientific socialism, cadre education or democratic centralism beforehand. Ask your local library for it, it’s a great and enlightening read!

alike cannot deny the active role that Islam plays on global political arena. In relation to this, all sincere students of islamology

find most western headlines on the subject laughable and and rightfully so, in western media ever since the triumph of the Iranian revolution, with was predominantly islamic

headlines such as the now infamous time magazine headline Iran vs The World has been the kind of headlines that have dominated the western media since the victory of the revolution in Iran

this has thus seriously affected the general perception of Islamic thought in the west in a really bad way. Especially since the Foreign policy of the Islamic Republic is founded on the principles of peace and mutual understanding and non interference

Ruollah Khomeini who is a leading figure in the islamic community although he passed away decades ago as

has been written of simply as a mad man, and little attention has been what the man actually stood for. Now regardless if you agree with the man or not he is one of the most important political figure of our time,

His teachings brought a new dynamic into the world of politics and saw the victory of an islamic revolution and the establishment of an Independent islamic republic,

which was unprecedented at the time.

The Book Islam and Revolution, Writings and Declarations part 1 is a perfect way of getting to know the revolutionary side of Islam

and it is a good oppurtunity to know the man under the turban.

Khomeini explains the true nature of why western capitalist leaders and imperalists oppose Islam with passion and clarifies that this has nothing to do with

"concerns for human rights".

In the section Islamic Government, page 28: the Imam explains: "

“It’s the religion of those who desire freedom and independence, It is the school of those who struggle against imperialism. but the servants of imperialism has presented islam in a totally different light, they have created in men’s mind a false notion of islam. The defective version which theyhave presented in the religious teaching institution, is intended to deprive islam of it’s vital, revolutionary aspect, and to prevent muslims from arousing themselves to gain their freedom [...] and allow them to live lifes worthy of human beings”

"Turning more closely to the anti imperialist nature of Islamic Thought, and the exploitive nature of capitalism Ruollah continues and says the following (page 39). "“If you pay no attention to the policies of the imperialists and consider islam to be simply a few topics you are always stuying and never go beyond them, then the imperialists will leave you alone - Pray as much as you like - it’s your oil they are after - why should they worry about your prayers, they are after our minerals and want to turn our country into a market for their goods. That is the reason the puppet governments they have installed prevent us from industrialising, and instead, establish only assembly plants and indystry that is dependent on the outsude world. They do not want us to be true human beings, for they are afraid of true human beings. Even if only one true human being appears, they fear him, because others will follow him, and he will have an impact that can destroy the whole foundation of tyranny, imperialism and government by puppets. [...] Now the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was also a political person.“

The above state explains that what the western establishment really fear is the enlightened muslims, beacuse they know that a deep understanidng Islamic thought poses obstacles for imperialist interfernece in the muslim world and beyond This is what is made clear by Imam Khomeini, and that is the western media is trying to hide this fact away from the ordinary people.

Especially in the Era of the Western Imperialist war aganst 'terrorism' - a time where muslims are taking the blame as scapegoats everywhere without any sense of reason.

With Knoweldge of this the importance of stuying and fully understanding Islamic governance and jurispudence cannot be overstated. Thus Ruollah Khomeinis book gives thereader a clearer picture of islam.

Regardless if you agree with everything in this book or not, it takes the dicussion of islamic thought far beyond the narrow minded frames of the western establishment, and as such it is a great read. For newcomers there is a great foreword which gives the reader a good introduction to the history of the iranian revolution and the life of Ruollah Khomeini. Don't be afraid to ask you local library for this book.

Introduction:

In international politics the fact is the progressive side of Zimbabwean politics is often hidden away, the general populace here in the west are generally under the influence of the notorious demonising campaign originating from western imperialism and because of eacist and colonial perspectives of the established western media. Estranged attitudes towards

Zimbabweans exist even within the progressive movement.

The side of Zimbabwe the west does not want us to see is the anti - imperialist revolutionary and people oriented policies of the ZANU (P.F.), which seemed to be alive and well during the congress.

Q:What is ZANU (P.F.)?

A: ZANU (P.F) is a genuine Pan African and revolutionary grass roots movement. in the independent republic of Zimbabwe a landlocked country in southern Africa. (ZANU P.F.) led the liberation struggle against Colonialism and is committed to spearheading the dynamic Zimbabwean revolution, strengthening the people’s oriented ecenomy and consolidating revolutionary unity, safeguarding the gains of the revolution and the majority rule attainted after the defeat of the Rhodesian apartheid settler minority government.

The importance of This Year’s People’s Congress

Although it was not given much attention in the west, fact remains that the revolutionary party concluded it’s People’s Congress yesterday drawing delegates from the countries all ten provinces, among other things the party elected a new Central Committee and endorsed a New Presidium and above all came out stronger united under the banner of putting the people first.

This years congress as indicated by Zimbabwe Government Online was held under the Theme “United in Defence of our National Resources and People’s Economic Empowerment” The Theme underlined the importance of collective strength over individualism and further it summarised the vital importance of economic empowerment among the masses as a means in safeguarding the gains of the revolution even in turbulent times.

The Importance of the Youth

During the congress the situation of the Youth was also contemplated and the importance of the youth was further stressed i.e who are better to safeguard the gains of the liberation struggle and carry on the revolution than the progressive youth.

Special attention - it was concluded must be given to educating the youth:

“In this era of globalisation, most youngsters live in the “here and now”. They have no time for history. If you want your political philosophy to convince them, you must first sell them a message that resonates with their everyday lives in various practical ways.” Worth noting is the fact that the Youth League also elected new leaders, showing a definite sign of a generation shift in the party. The wisdom of the experienced generation is handed over to the young as they pass the baton.

The Coalition Government Evaluated

The time that has passed since the Run off election and the commitment to the inclusive government was also evaluated. Where as the inclusive government has contributed to political stability and peace in the country in face of imperialist threat and divide and rule agendas, it was concluded that the coalition government still has it’s limitations and that the political movement must aim at consolidating the trust among the grass roots first and foremost.

On Zimbabwe Government online it was explained in the following words:

“This is not to say the coalition arrangement is a total waste of time. It is not. Zanu-PF and the two MDC formations are all benefiting from the inclusive Government. But at some point one political party must gain the upper hand as the nation braces for what promises to be a bruising election.”

Serving the People’s Needs the Major Task

Other than electing a new central committee and endorsing a new Presidium with Comrade Simon Khaya Moyo as the newly elected national chairman - The party stressed the fact that as the congress comes to close the major tasks for the revolutionary movement still lies ahead. The Hong Kong region once a British colony was reunited with the People’s Republic of China in 1997 and brought a new dynamic into Chinese Society. How was the reunification carried out and what made the smooth transition possible, what role does The Hong special Administrative region play for Chinas overall development and how does Hong Kongs colonial heritage interplay with socialism with Chinese characteristics. All questions are answer in this book, which advocates broad unity and development. Authored by Deng Xiaoping the Chinese leader who came up with the one country two system policy which provided a solid foundation for a peaceful transfer from the colonial authorities, Hong Kong as a special administrative region maintains a large amount of autonomy which corresponds to the specific conditions and requirements of the china PR, as a development country. Due to Hong Kong’s colonial heritage and history as a sea port town it’s economic infrastructure difference somewhat from that of mainland china. Studying the nature of the Hong Kong question removes many misconceptions of The people’s republic of China as a one dimensional society and further Comrade deng explains this without any complications.

The book teaches us that , one cannot always apply political theory by going by the book but must take reality into account in doing so - Comrade Deng takes the Chinese reality a large multiethnic country into account stresses the need for political stability and stable economic development and makes clear how a economic system cannot not be copied and applied mechanically. This is a fact proven by history. Turning to the specific conditions of Hong Kong Comrade Deng explained: “in addition to stable economic development, Hong k needs a stable political system. As I have said, at present Hong Kong has a political system that is differ from the ones in Britain and united states and will not copy any western system in the future arbitrarily copying western systems would cause unrest”

When Deng formulated the policy of one country two systems, he had a broad sighted definition of national unity in mind, i.e he motivated his position by explaining how forcing a political system on one another will only cause unrest and instability. Taking into account the Chinese realities and the realities of Hong Kong was taking in to account, and thus made a smooth transition from colonial power to sovereignty possible, without alienating the general public, or causing conflict, but instead promoting mutual understanding and cultural exchange on the basis of mutual benefit. Turning to the specific conditions that the people’s republic finds itself in as a developing country as in with the question of reunification, Comrade Deng as always stressed the need of thinking out of the box when it comes to developing the productive forces and the economy. “we have opened some cities to the outside world on condition that socialist econonomy remains dominant there. These cities will not change their socialist nature on the contrary the policy of opening to the outside world will favour the growth of the socialist economy there” The hong Kong special administrave region place a unique role in the dynamic society that is the People’s Republic of China although a short pamflett 62 pages exluding the footnotes the book is as easy to read as it is informative, the book in an easily acessable way shows that there is far more diversity to the China PR compared to what is usually recognised in the west. One for instance chapter in the book explains the basic difference of the Socialist democracy according to chinese realities and the western bourgiose and democracy. the taiwan question is also breifly introduced anf question that would be further elaborated by Comrade Jiang Zemin in later years

This book was published by foreign languge press in 1993 and is a great, inspirational and educational read I two used to have a very one sided view on china before, but this was one of the books that really changed this for me. Comrade Jiang explains how the concept of one country and two systems was developed answering to the chinese realities and development conditions, this is important to keep in mind when reading this book - and remeber think out of the box! this book shows a dynamic side of the Chinese society which is rarely talked about in the west, and as such it is a very enlightening read. It is good to know the basis of scientific socialism and chinese history before reading it, yet one does not have to be an expert, and the foot notes are helpful for new comers to the subject. students of history or international relations will take intrest in the except provided here from the deliberates between the central people’s Governent and the U.K. Students of Scientific Socialism will especially be delighted to find Comrade dengs speech to the Central advisory commision of the Chinese communist party from 1984, The book was translated into english by bureau for the compilation and translation of works, of Marx,Engels, Lenin and Stalin under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in other words it’s directly from the source.

to put it short Highly recommended!. The basic principles are easily summed up

Introduction:

During my student days at Malmö Univeristy a couple of years ago I engaged studies on the subject disability and culture. discussing culture at university during the our source material to my disappointed was more or less limited to western sources (Sweden, UK, U.S) I started scouting for alternative sources and this is when I found this book. At the time I had no idea Yuri Andropov had ever published books and to my delight it was very easy read.

The Quest for Austainable peace in face of imperialist pressure

in the primary sections Yuri Andropov in the primary sections deals with the delicate issues such as arms race, Détente and the quest for peace and stability and in this book. Yuri Andrpov deals with the state of the world in his speech during a plenary meeting of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in November 1982.

In face of a delicate situation in world politics internally and externally Comrade Andropov stressed the importance of Unity. “Unity is our strength and our promise for ultimate success”

Further in the same speech Comrade Andropov stressed the fact that: “A World without arms that is the ideal of Socialism” interestingly enough although the USSR was signatory to the Warsaw treaty Comrade Andropov in contemplating such issues as the quest for world peace and security still comes to admit that the group of states that created the non alignment movement is growing in importance. Other than dealing with the general guidelines in dealing with the nuclear threat, safeguarding peace and stability or maintaining international diplomatic relations. Comrade Andropov also uses a section of the book to present a lecture on the teachings of Karl Marx and a Few Questions on Building Socialism in the USSR 1983.

The Origin of Marxism - Leninism

In his lecture Andropov explains without any complication how the name of Lenin is inseparable from that of Marx. Andropov explains how Leninism is a necessary development of the revolutionary ideology awsering to the trend of the times and does so in the following words “Leninism is Marxism during the Era of Imperialism and Proletarian revolutions during the collapse of the colonial system, during the era of humanities transition from capitalism to socialism.” Andropov makes clear that Leninism provided the basic strategy for the socialist revolution pointing out that the October Revolution triumphed during new historic conditions which did not exist in Marx lifetime. Leninism as a revolutionary component of scientific socialism in the era of imperialism thus provided the correct path for the success of the October Revolution.

Socialism is not a matter of abstract ideals

Comrade Andropov also stresses Marx teachings was never about abstract ideals, but rather the product of an analysis of the objective contradictions of large scale capitalism. Furthermore he explains that the revolution expresses itself differently in different countries and in different times, i.e he makes clear that there is more than one definition of what a socialist society looks like. Comrade Andropov explains “ Everywhere where Proletarian revolutions have triumphed, public ownership, which established in one form or the other has become the main factor for the existing socialism it’s foundation and progress."

The point made that Andropov to makes in his lecture on building socialism in USSR 1983 is that the basic principles of Scientific socialism must always correspond to the specific development conditions in the given nation - hence the term public ownership in one form or the other.

This is as true today as it was in 1983.

Andropov also deals with the subject of the relation work and culture in socialist society in this book and explains how socialism successfully removes age old barriers between the two.

Conclusion:

As noted this book was published in 1983 at a time were the balance of power was delicate and the quest for sustainable peace faced many challenges in face of imperialist pressure.

The book was written in the time of the arms race and thus the book also deals with security issues and international relations in general.

All in All I think it is a very good read, and would recommend it to anyone. worth pointing out is that while Yuri Andropov is not talked about that often, this does not make this book any less essential. while some may argue that the parts of the book dealing with the arms race and nuclear threat seems a little bit out of fashion these days, I for one do not agree reading about the soviet point of view on these issues is a rare treat. Regardless Andropov’s lecture on a few questions concerning the building of socialism in the USSR 1983 is especially worthwhile. I would warmly recommend reading “our aim is to preserve peace to anyone , it’s a great read. Andropov, now who would have thunk it?

For most people in the west the author of this great book is nothing more than a foot note in history of the Cold War.

Chinese Socialism and the Diversified Economy as Explained by Comrade Jiang

A Short Presentation

Introduction:

As Socialism with Chinese characteristics does differ a lot from the general and stereotyped view of Socialism in the West many people in the west remain largely unaware of the true dynamics of the Chinese Economy. This article seeks to bring further understanding on this subject. A portion of this article is based on a CBS interview with Jiang Zemin dating back to 1997 all quotes are from this article. The main focus of my article here is to bring the reader a deeper understanding of Chinese Socialism and the specific dynamics of the economy in The People’s Republic. I decided to write this article because I think the general perception persisting in the west concerning the economy in China PR is all too one sided and I am also of the opinion that the western perception does not reflect reality. All quotes are in italics.

Comrade Jiang explains the Basic Characteristics of the Chinese Economy

While in the United States on an official state visit aiming to promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and The People’s Republic, in October 1997 - the then President of the Central People’s Government Comrade Jiang Zemin and General Secretary of CPC spoke open heartedly about culture and political system. The interviewer a CBS reporter named Jim Lehrer , asked among other things about the economic and political system of China - and needless to say more clarity concerning these issues is needed in the west.

China PR a Developing Country Going Through a Dynamic Development Process.

in the interview Jaing explained in very few words signifies which are the main characteristics of multi dimensional Chinese society. Far from the Western stereotype. Comrade Jiang explained how the Chinese economy is diverse and dynamic, and most of all contrary to common misunderstanding, due biased reporting The People’s Republic is in fact going through a dynamic development process.

To give a clearer understanding of the situation on the ground Comrade Jiang explained: “Different countries have different historic tradition, cultural tradition, and level of economic development.” in stressing this fact Jiang made clear that one must have an open mind as to understand that no countries look exactly the same, and that many factors determine the course of development for the given country.

Turning to the side of economic development Comrade Jiang made clear the unique characteristics of the Chinese society which is often over simplified or ignored by journalists in the west: “In our endeavor to develop our economy, we will work to achieve a diversified form of ownership, with public ownership playing the predominant role. Under this mechanism we have the public ownership, collective ownership, private ownership, and even individual ownership.”

The above statement clarifies the dynamic nature of the economy and clarifies some basic principles of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, Jiang also to time to clarify the basic political structure of the People’s Government, which as it happens may differ from western traditions of governance corresponds well with the specific conditions of the China PR.

“ With the founding of The People's Republic of China, the constitution of new China has been formulated which stipulates that the National People's Congress is the supreme power-holding organ in China.

At the same time, we also have the multiparty cooperation system with the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and we also have The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. And we have our state council which serves as the executive branch.”

The above explains the Chinese reality of governance, and also gave further enlightenment to people who had previously no clear understanding of the specific features of the Central People’s Government in China.

Jiang also took some time reflecting over the Chinese experience of building socialism and communism. He spoke from the heart and also made clear that one cannot apply political theory in a mechanic way.

“As the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, ever since the day I joined the revolution, I've been cherishing the ideal to achieve Communism. And I don't believe this is a fading concept.

However, I believe it's fair to say that perhaps in the past people had too much ideals. And now we need to work under the initiative of Deng Xiaoping. And we should also follow the concept, which I would like to quote a Chinese saying which is a thousand mile journey need to start from the first step. And, therefore, as I counted out in the report I delivered to the 15th Party Congress, we are now under the primary stage of Socialism. And, in the words of Mr. Deng Xiaoping, we are working to build a Socialism with Chinese characteristics.”

In this way Comrade Jiang makes clear that society building must always correspond to the Chinese realities.

A few notes on Chine PR and international relations

While Comrade Jiang as a representative of the Central People’s Government, and as a member of the CPC has ALWAYS been a very prominent advocate for independence and sovereignty - This should not be misunderstood as the People’s Republic of China Shuns the Idea of cultural exchange and international cooperation. One example of this fact is that it was Comrade Jiang who stressed the importance of founding the Forum for China - Africa cooperation, on the basis of mutual respect, and mutual benefit, The above mentioned principles are applicable in all situations and is an ever-present component of Chinas foreign policy.

The Paramount importance of maintaining the idea Peace and mutual respect in international relations

Peace is also an ever present component of the foreign policy in China PR and thus the unmotivated fear that is often heard of in some circles in the world that the Chinese seek world supremacy of secretly plot to take over the world, can easily be dispelled if one is willing to shrug of all prejudice and listen to what the representatives of the Central People’s Government has to say about it. “we are working to build is a socialist market economy.

For instance, Germany is under the social market economy. And here in the United States it is the free capitalist economy. But this by no means stand in the way of the free exchange of trade between the two countries. Nor do we have the intention of exporting our socialism with Chinese characteristics to you here in the United States.

Comrade Jiang also spoke with the clarity on the paramount importance holding the principles of mutual under standing and of non interference in the internal affairs of sovereign nations in high esteem by saying:

“I believe most importantly there is a need for deep and mutual understanding about each other's situation. And dialogues can also be carried out on the basis of not interference in each other's internal affairs.”

Conclusion:

by studying China more closely I think anyone will be able to shrug of the most common stereotypes about China, and see China more for what it is, a dynamic society and not a strictly one dimensional society. I think everyone in the west can learn a thing or two from China, you don’t have to be a communist to realise this. There is no point in denying what a knowledgeable person Comrade Jiang is.

Regardless if you agree with everything he says or not, doing so would be an insult to the Chinese people. Regardless of what you may think of him personally there is no point in overlooking that he still has played an important role in developing modern day China - this is a fact and a reality which simply be overlooked. I am of the opinion that Jiang is very right in stating that deep and mutual understanding is of paramount importance in today’s multi polar world.

My point was in writting this article was to explain why I think everyone should take note of what comrade Jiang has said and try to me more open minded and see the world for what it is and always keep in mind that different countries have different historic tradition, cultural tradition, and level of economic development.

Introduction:

Much has been said about China through out the years - but in the west a very one dimensional view of the Dynamic and multi ethnic society that is the People’s Republic of China still persists.

Especially the question of Tibet's Autonomy has been infected with confusion in the western hemisphere and does not reflect the reality on the ground. The correlation between unity and diversity has not be understood and More over the history of feudal serfdom and theocratic conservatism that was the reality in ancient Tibet before liberation is fundamentally ignored in the west. In the west were tha dalai clique is perceived as an somewhat “enlightened despotic regime” despite the fact that The Dalai Lama is a bogus advocate for peace. The biased view of the Western establishment has more to with the dalai clique regimes close connection with former colonial authorities than any real concerns for the well being of the people or the progress of humankind.

The Tibet issue and imperialist measures to destabilise the People’s Republic

In western establishment media “concerns” about Tibet are used as an excuse to meddle in the internal affairs of the Chinese nation. In the west imperialist media often seek to misinform the general populace about the true dynamics of the Tibet issue and the history of Serfdom correlated to the colonial history of the region prior to the liberation. All this is made in an effort to try and destabilise the People’s Republic of China and to plant seeds of discord in an effort to regain western influence over the region. The Central People governments position on the matter is rarely -if ever- talk about. Often it is spoken of only to ridicule the Chinese nation and to insult the Chinese People and it’s leaders. Not very much attention is given to the situation on the ground and the dynamic course of development spearheaded by the Central People’s Government.

Hu Jintao’s remarks concerning the 50th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Tibet

A Brief Presentation

During the time when Comrade Hu Jintao served as Vice President of the Central People’s Government of the People’s Republic of China Comrade Hu was invited to address the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Peaceful liberation of Tibet held in July 2001.

although hard to find in the west as if they are trying to hide truth of the realities of Tibet this magnificent address can be found online. In his profound address Hu Jintao stresses the important of both broad based unity and embracing diversity in a way which is generally unheard of in the west.

“Tibet is a beautiful and richly endowed region of our great motherland. The industrious and talented people of all ethnic groups in Tibet have, in a long historical development, made outstanding contributions to the creation of a glorious culture of the Chinese nation and creation of a unified multi-ethnic country. In the last half a century in particular, the Tibetan people have written brilliant chapters in the development and progress of Tibet and added new glory to the big family of our socialist motherland. We feel profoundly proud of the past and immensely confident about the future. Let us rally around the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Jiang Zemin at the core, hold high the great banner of Deng Xiaoping Theory, take the important thinking of the "Three Represent's" as the guide, work together unremittingly with one heart for a new socialist Tibet of unity, prosperity and civilization, and for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation!”

In stressing the fact of looking ahead to the future and working together in unity comrade Hu also underlined the importance that all people do not forget the history of serfdom which used to surround Tibet before liberation.

“Fifty years ago, the CPC Central Committee and Comrade Mao Zedong, having correctly assessed the situation, made a far- sighted, resolute and significant policy decision to liberate Tibet peacefully. The Central People's Government and the former local government of Tibet signed the Agreement on Measures for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet, thus bringing about the peaceful liberation of Tibet. The peaceful liberation of Tibet was a major event in modern Chinese history and an epoch-making turning point in the course of development in Tibet. It symbolized that Tibet once and for all cast off the yoke of imperialist aggression and that the great unity of the Chinese nation and its great reunification cause have entered a new period of development. It ushered in a new era in which Tibet would turn from darkness to light, from backwardness to progress, from poverty to affluence and from seclusion to openness.”

Hu Jintao also took the opportunity to draw up a summarisation of the great attention the Central People’s Government and the People of China has given to developing Tibet, and described how this has turned an ancient feudal society into a a dynamic diverse and multiethnic society: “Over the past 50 years, Tibet has achieved a leap forward in the historical development of social systems and embarked on a socialist road. With the abolition of feudal serfdom, under which the Tibetan people had long been suppressed and exploited, millions of erstwhile serfs who did not even have the minimum of human rights have now stood up and become masters of their own fate. Today people of all ethnic groups are fully enjoying political, economic, cultural and other rights and having complete control of their destiny.”

Moreover Hu explained the importance of gearing attention towards securing peace and stability in the region and strengthening unity on the basis of mutual assistance as an important perquisite for further development.

“People of all ethnic groups have worked in unity and succeeded in foiling the separatist and disruptive activities of the Dalai clique and anti-China forces in the world time and again, and thus safeguarded stability in Tibet and national unity and state security. With the passage of 50 extraordinary years, Tibet of today presents a scene of vitality and prosperity with economic growth, social progress and stability, ethnic solidarity and solid border defense. The people here are living and working in peace and contentment”

Conclusion:

My uttermost aim with this article was to present a more insightful view of the Tibet issue, which unlike the established western view was not stripped away from it’s historical context, also I wanted the reader to be able to set aside all forms of prejudice take note of the official stand taken by the Central People’s Government as it is. I wanted to present it going directly from the source, and thus when I have done so I hope have also been successful in dispelling the most common racial prejudice which continues to persist in the western bourgeoisie society towards the brave people of Chine and the leaders of the Central People’s Government of The People’s Republic of China.

Hopefully this article has also brought the reader with a deeper understanding of the dynamics of Chinese Socialism which difference a lot from the one sided view established in the western media.

Introduction:

Following the Sixth Plenum of the 16th CPC CentralCommittee in 2006 at which the CPC highlighted the importance of creating a

socialist harmonious society. China View through the Central News Agency Xinua wrote a great article on the formulation The Core Socialist Value System, a basic concept formulated by General Secretary Hu Jintao who succeeds in crystallising the basic principles of the Socialist Core Values in a poetic yet uncomplicated way.

Part I: Origins of The Core Socialist Value System

As a large development country with a giant population, the China PR finds itself in a peculiar position.

Recognising the fact that the multi ethnic nation which consists of more than 50 ethnic group is going through a dynamic process of development - The Core Socialist Value System has been developed as a means for advocating for Social Harmony it is accessible to everyone regardless of ethnicity. The system came into creation March 2006

Part II:Interpreting the meaning of The Core Socialist Value System

(A): The basic Principles.

First let us turn back to the aforementioned China View and reflect over the basic principles of the Core Socialist Value System.

The principles are as follows:

-- Love the country; do it no harm

-- Serve the people; never betray them

-- Follow science; discard superstition

-- Be diligent; not indolent

-- Be united, help each other; make no gains at other's expense

-- Be honest and trustworthy; do not sacrifice ethics for profit

-- Be disciplined and law-abiding; not chaotic and lawless

-- Live plainly, work hard; do not wallow in luxuries and pleasures.

The Central theme is Genuinely people’s oriented politics which is created through broad unity.

The Socialist Core Value System also makes clear that political stability is underpinned by honesty, and social commitment. The above signifies the basic moral guidelines of the Socialist Society in China it calls on people to shun corruption and at the same time it also endorses The Scientific Development Concept.

(B) Why was this core value system formulated?

Judging from the basic principles judging simply the words alone it is obvious that the principles of the value system corresponds well with the The Scientific Development Concept endorsed by the CPC as an important guideline for development at the most recent congress (the 17th congress 2007).

Although the consolidation of The Scientific Development Concept, is an important factor this does no however give the whole answer to the question posed above.

Both the The Scientific Development Concept and The Socialist Core Value system stresses the need for social harmony. I.E. both ideas originate from the same source and complement one another.

In the course of developing Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, the position of the CPC is clear, the importance of social harmony cannot be underestimated. This has a lot to do with the current phase of dynamic development the country finds itself in.

Returning to Party Resolutions in relation to the publication of the socialist core value system which is quoted in the above mentioned article, the new challenges that have arisen in the course of Chinas economic development is being sighted as the main reason for formulating the Socialist Core Value System

”China's rapid economic development has led to significant changes

to the Chinese society and people's way of living and thinking.

Such unprecedented social changes have brought great vitality to

China's development and progress, but have resulted in various

contradictions and problems,"

The words from the article quoted above echoes Deng Xiaoping’s words that socialism is no easy job nevertheless the formulating of the Socialist Core Value System as indicated above has developed naturally to to the specific course of development that the multi ethnic nation finds itself in.

Efforts are thus being made to embody the Chinese society with the Socialist Core Value System in all sphere’s of society and public life.

The Central Committee in this context puts special weight on the importance of introducing this system in the fields of national education in the promotion of moral ethics and modernisation. The Author of The Socialist Core Value System Comrade Hu Jintao also stresses the importance of educating the Youth - thus one can come to the conclusion that the Value system was also authored especially with the needs of the youth in mind.

Introduction:

In the course of reviewing the past years and the road ahead for the CPC at the 17th congress in 2007 The General Secretary of The CPC presented his report entitled “Hold High the Great Banner of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics and Strive for New Victories in Building a Moderately Prosperous Society in all Aspects”

Unprecedented Opportunities as well as Unprecedented Challenges

This thorough report Sketched up the task ahead for the CPC in further advancing the cause of Peace and Development, Yet as Comrade Hu rightly put it this cause is being pursued against the back drop of a complex global political arena:

“The world today is undergoing extensive and profound changes, and contemporary China is going through a wide-ranging and deep-going transformation. This brings us unprecedented opportunities as well as unprecedented challenges, with the formeroutweighing the latter. The whole Party must unswervingly hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics and lead the people in starting from this new historical point, grasping and making the most of the important period of strategic opportunities, staying realistic and pragmatic, forging ahead with determination, continuing to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects and accelerate socialist modernization, and accomplishing the lofty mission bestowed by the times.”

Making the Most out of Strategic Opportunities

Comrade Hu spoke with clarity on the importance of making the most out of strategic opportunities but most of all He also clarified that one must maintain a dynamic perspective on development.

Pointing out the positive side of the past five years Comrade Hu concluded: “The endeavor to make China an innovative nation registered good progress, with considerable improvement in the country's capacity for independent innovation. Notable achievements were scored in the construction of infrastructure including energy, transport and telecommunications facilities and other key projects. Manned spaceflights were successfully conducted. Fresh progress was registered in energy, resources, ecological and environmental conservation. The Tenth Five-Year Plan (2001-05) was fulfilled successfully and implementation of the eleventh is in smooth progress.”

Comrade Hu correctly registered that great accomplishments had been made in the years since the last Congress yet The General Secretary never seized to stress the point that the political theory that guides the party must keep up with the times in this ever changing world.

“ To continue to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics at the new stage of development, we must follow the guidance of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of Three Represents and thoroughly apply the Scientific Outlook on Development.

The Scientific Outlook on Development is a continuation and development of the important thoughts on development advanced by the previous three generations of central collective leadership of the CPC and a concentrated expression of the Marxist world outlook and methodology with regard to development. It is a scientific theory that is in the same line as Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of Three Represents and keeps up with the times. It is an important guiding principle for China's economic and social development and a major strategic thought that we must uphold and apply in developing socialism with Chinese characteristics.”

The Dynamic Importance of Socialist Culture

In this context Comrade Hu, as Comrade Jiang Zemin before him stressed the dynamic importance of socialist culture: “Socialist Culture is thriving as never before, but the people have growing cultural needs and have become more independent, selective, changeable and diverse in thinking, setting higher requirements for the development of an advanced socialist culture. Our society has become evidently more dynamic, but profound changes have taken place in the structure of society, in the way society is organized and in the pattern of social interests, and many new issues have emerged in social development and management.”

When Comrade Hu Jintao draws up the description of the true dynamics of Society what is revealed is something totally different from the traditionally stereotyped and sterile view of a socialist state in the west. Yet with the multi ethnic People’s Republic of China Being the largest populated country in the world the correlation between cohesiveness, Social Harmony and Broad Scientific development is essential in relation to this subject Comrade Hu spoke with clarity: “Social harmony is an essential attribute of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Sustainable Development and the broad Dynamics of Development of The People’s Republic of China

In the mid 80’s Comrade Deng Xiaoping in his book “Fundamental issues” reflected over the fact that China in the past made the mistake of trying to plunge ahead to fast. It is obvious that the situation in which China PR still finds it self is multi-facetted and complex. The Concept of Scientific Development naturally answered to the necessity of the times in endorsing sustainable development, and for the CPC and General Secretary Comrade Hu Jintao this means endorsing all aspects of Sustainable Development, i.e. Political, Economic and Environmental.

Political Sustainability

Therefore The Party sets a clear and realistic path to deal with sustainability in all these fields: “To realize social equity and justice is the Chinese Communists' consistent position and a major task of developing socialism with Chinese characteristics. In accordance with the general requirements for democracy and the rule of law, equity and justice, honesty and fraternity, vigor and vitality, stability and order, and harmony between man and nature and the principle of all the people building and sharing a harmonious socialist society, we will spare no effort to solve the most specific problems of the utmost and immediate concern to the people and strive to create a situation in which all people do their best, find their proper places in society and live together in harmony, so as to provide a favourable social environment for development.”

Economical Sustainability

Apart from the above the the perspective is clear also on what to do in the social economic sphere to “Promote balanced development to ensure sound and rapid economic growth”

Environmental Sustainability

Environmental protection and resource conserving - as Comrade Hu explained it in his report- also plays a key role for social development and thus a clear plan was drawn up to: ”Improve energy, resources, ecological and environmental conservation and enhance China's capacity for sustainable development. Adhering to the basic state policy of conserving resources and the environment is vital to the immediate interests of the people and the survival and development of the Chinese nation. We must give prominence to building a resource-conserving, environment-friendly society in our strategy for industrialization and modernization and get every organization and family to act accordingly. We will improve laws and policies to promote energy, resources, ecological and environmental conservation, and speed up the formation of systems and mechanisms for sustainable development. We will implement the responsibility system for conserving energy and reducing emissions. We will develop and extend advanced and appropriate technologies for conserving, substituting and recycling energy and resources and for controlling pollution, develop clean and renewable energy sources, protect land and water resources and set up a scientific, rational system for using energy and resources more efficiently. We will develop environmental conservation industries.”

Conclusion:

The Report dealth with many different subjects which found common ground in the party’s quest for the versatile development of the modern Chinese society.

With his report General Secretary Hu Jintao presented a dynamic vision but not only that, more importantly in introducing the the Scientific Development Concept which correnspondes fully with the Important Thought of The Three Represents Comrade Hu also provided a pragmatic and realistic strategy that is in sync with Chinese realities so as much that it makes this vision a feasible reality. The Scientific Development Concept among other things identifies sustainable development as one of the most pressing issues in today’s world.

motherland is the aspiration of the whole nation. If it cannot be accomplished in 100 years, it will

be in 1,000 years. As I see it, the only solution lies in practising two systems in one country. The

world faces the choice between peaceful and non-peaceful means of solving disputes. One way or

the other, they must be solved. New problems must be solved by new means”

Introduction

As time has shown the quest for peaceful reunification has proved to be the most sustainable solution for reunification in the long run. Comrade Deng is famous in China for the Deng Xiaoping Theory, but a his policy on peaceful reunification has also captured the attention of peace loving people world wide.

The foundations of the concept for Peaceful Reunification answers to the wishes of the People of China and is the only way to avoid conflict in a larger scale.

Before we get deeper in to the subject I will answer a few basic questions

this will provide a solid foundation for the reader who is new to this subject

Q: What are the basic principles of Reunification in China?

A: The basic Principle is Peaceful Reunification i.e. no use of force is advocated and communication based on mutual understanding and respect is promoted.

Q:How did this concept develop?

A: Simply put well in accordance with the wishes for peace and stability cherished by the entire population of the Chinese nation.

Q: Who formulated the Principle One Country, Two Systems?

A: Taking into account the realities of the colonial heritage that the former British colony Hong Kong had. Comrade Deng formulated the policy of One Country, Two Systems which provided a solid frame work that made peaceful reunification a possibility.

Q: Is Chinese Reunification a reality today?

A: Very much so! After the successful reunification of Hong Kong in 1997 with the Chinese Mainland a similar concept for reunification for reuniting the former Portuguese colony Macao with the Chinese Mainland was endorsed in 1999. worth noting is that similar efforts are also being made in reuniting Taiwan with the China PR.

The Basic Formula for Peaceful Reunification

I first came across this profound concept for peaceful reunification a couple of years ago in small yet clearly visionary pamphlet On the Hong Kong Question authored by Comrade Deng Xiaoping. Although short considering the amount of pages, the message in the pamphlet is clear and thoroughly explained. The Hong Kong question gathers in Momentum considering the fact that the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong provides a certain dynamic to the over all development of The People’s Republic of China and further more and most to me important of all when considering the important role the Hong Kong question has meant for peace and political stability in the region.

The Prosperity and Stability of Hong Kong Must be Maintained

One of Comrade Deng’s Paramount principles in the Hong Kong question was the fact that the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong must be maintained. Comrade Deng realised that it was of paramount importance also to advocate broad national unity rather than forcing the socialist system of Mainland China on Hong Kong or vice versa forcing the Free market system of Hong Kong on Mainland China - as this involved a giant risk steeping up unnecessary conflict, this would only pose a threat to the peace, security and political stability of the People’s Republic as a whole - more over the customs of the former British colony could not just simply be taken out of the equation, therefore a open policy of dialogue and understanding was endorsed.

Comrade Deng explained this in very few words:

“We don't demand that they be in favor of China's

socialist system; we only ask them to love the motherland and Hong Kong”

The Autonomy of the Special Administrative Regions

No effort was ever made to force the socialist system of the mainland of the former British colony Hong Kong - which due to it’s colonial heritage inherited a different economic system. Although a delicate Matter the maintaining of the Economic Autonomy of The Hong Kong Special Administrative region was of vital importance for a smooth transition and as time has passed a dynamic exchange has developed between mainland China and the Special Administrative Region, which fully recognises the specific character of the special Administrative Regions and their peculiarities.

Mutual Respect and Non Interference in Internal Affairs

The exchange between the Mainland part of the China PR and the SAR of Hong Kong is based on mutual respect and non interference in Internal Affairs. It is a well formulated idea, which safeguards both national peace and political stability and encourages cultural diversity.

Deng Xiaoping explained further:

“Hong Kong's current social and economic systems will remain unchanged, its legal

system will remain basically unchanged, its way of life and its status as a free port and an

international trade and financial center will remain unchanged and it can continue to maintain or

establish economic relations with other countries and regions. We have also stated repeatedly

that apart from stationing troops there, Beijing will not assign officials to the government of the

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. This policy too will remain unchanged. We shall station

troops there to safeguard our national security, not to interfere in Hong Kong's internal affairs.”

Co-operation Between (SAR) Regions and Mainland China May Stimulate the Development of the Productive Forces.

Mainland China Remains under it’s Socialist system but is not entirely separated from cultural and economic exchange with the Special Administrative Regions - Thus the People’s Republic of China since the reunification and the establishment with Special Administrative Regions such as Hong Kong and Macao finds itself in a multi-facetted process for dynamic development which is very different from the one dimensional view of the China PR which continues to persist in the western hemisphere.

The usual one sided misconceptions of Chinese Society has more to do with prejudice and lack of interest of anything that’s different than the truth of the matter. Comrade Deng in relation to this matter briefly made a comparison to the the concept of special Economic Zones saying: “Our policy towards Hong Kong will remain the same for a long time to come, but this will not affect socialism on the mainland. The main part of China must continue under socialism, but a

capitalist system will be allowed to exist in certain areas, such as Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Opening a number of cities on the mainland will let in some foreign capital, which will serve as a

supplement to the socialist economy and help promote the growth of the socialist productive forces. For example, when foreign capital is invested in Shanghai, it certainly does not mean that

the entire city has gone capitalist. The same is true of Shenzhen, where socialism still prevails.

The main part of China remains socialist. “

The above explains the current phase of economic development that the China PR finds it self in, in a manner that shows not only how large the people’s Republic of China is but more over how versatile and unique it’s government structure social system and economic system is.

The Unique Character of Chinese Socialism and the Dynamic Relationship Between the Central People’s Government, Special Administrative Regions and Special Economic Zones

Needless to say the successes of The Profound Policy for Peaceful Reunification, remains a fantastic example of the unique character of Chinese Socialism.

It is also a key example of the dynamic relationships between the Central People’s Government. Special Administrative Regions and Special Economic Zones which has brought China into a new phase of development unprecedented in the course of history of nations. Comrade Deng noted:

“ Has any government in the history of the world ever pursued a policy as generous as China's?

Is there anything recorded in the history of capitalism about any Western

country doing something similar? When we adopt the policy of "one country, two systems" to

resolve the Hong Kong question, we are not acting on impulse or playing tricks but are

proceeding from reality and taking into full account the past and present circumstances of Hong

Kong”

A Dynamic Relationship Founded on Trust

The basis of the Profound Policy for Peaceful Reunification as formulated by Comrade Deng and as endorsed by the National People’s Congress of The People’s Republic of China created positive and reliable framework founded on sincerity and trust. It was a broad based policy for national Unity which fully recognises the fact that The People’s Republic of China is a Dynamic, Multi Cultural and Multi Ethnic Society Comrade Deng spoke of this subject with a certain amount of compassion when he said:

“We should have faith in the Chinese of Hong Kong, who are quite capable of administering their

own affairs. The notion that Chinese cannot manage Hong Kong affairs satisfactorily is a leftover

from the old colonial mentality. For more than a century after the Opium War, the Chinese people

were looked down upon and humiliated by foreigners. But China's image has changed since the

founding of the People's Republic. The modern image of China was not created by the

government of the late Qing Dynasty, nor by the northern warlords, nor by Chiang Kai-shek and

his son. It is the People's Republic of China that has changed China's image. All Chinese have at

the very least a sense of pride in the Chinese nation, no matter what clothes they wear or what

political stand they take. The Chinese in Hong Kong share this sense of national pride. They have

the ability to run the affairs of Hong Kong well and they should be confident of that. The

prosperity of Hong Kong has been achieved mainly by Hong Kong residents, most of whom are

Chinese. Chinese are no less intelligent than foreigners and are by no means less talented. It is

not true that only foreigners can be good administrators. We Chinese are just as capable. The

view that the people of Hong Kong lack self-confidence is not really shared by the people of Hong

Kong themselves. “

Misconceptions concerning the true nature of the Hong Kong question originate normally either from lack of knowledge of the colonial history of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or otherwise it originates from a lack of insight in the true dynamics of The unique and versatile government structure of the People’s Republic of China.

Conclusion:

During the Celebratory 60th anniversery in october this year special attention was put into summarising the historical experience of society building in the People's Republic of China

The portraits of four generations of leadership where accompanied by famous slogans, all corrensponding to certain aspects of the Dynamic Chinese Revolution

"Long Live Mao Zedong Thought, the Chinese people have stood up," and "upholding Deng Xiaoping Theory, promote reform and opening up and socialist modernization," "uphold the 'Three Represents' important thought, comprehensively building a moderately prosperous society "," implement the scientific concept of development, and unswervingly take the socialist road with Chinese characteristics.

Looking Ahead to Future by Applying

the Scientific Development Concept

The final emphasis on the Scientific Development Concept suggests to look ahead and to embody all past expereinces of society building simultainiously. It also suggest that these important tasks facing China today can be solved by fully implementing Sientific Development concept as presented by Comrade Hu Jintao at the 17th CPC Congress.

Introduction:

The phase of development that The People’s Republic of China is as complex as it is dynamic and multi-facetted and of course cannot be summed up in total in small set of short articles, nevertheless the basic idea can be presented in a good manner. The same must be said about The Three Represent, books and articles on the subject are hard to come by in the western hemisphere, but the Distinctive key features of The Three Represents can still be explained. I am certain that basic knowledge of such key features even if it only amounts to the bare mimimums will still be of great help to any one who wishes to acquaint herself/himself more with China PR.

To have basic knowledge on the classics of Scientific Socialism, is also helpful yet one does not have to be an expert, to understand the basic concepts of The Three Represents.

a few basic questions will be dealt with before we carry on with our subject

Q: In recognising that The Three Represents is a new strategic concept for the new millennium and the present phase of building of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, yet still is founded on Historical Materialism what does this mean?

A: It means that The Important Thought of the Three Represent is indeed a new strategic concept, apt for the conditions of building socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the new millennium. Yet it is a strategic concept of thought which has been formulated after reviewing the history of The International Communist Movement in general and the History of social development in China PR in particular. As A Concept of Thought it has it’s roots in Scientific Socialism, yet it is especially designed for China’s specific conditions for development identifying China’s position as a large country going through a process of dynamic developed in a multi-polar world.

Q: The Chinese are known for saying that they refuse to blindly copy others - Does this mean that the Chinese refuse co-operating with other nations and people?

A: No, This is a common misunderstanding. The People of China Pr, cherish their hard-won independence and sovereignty - still, as the Chinese also cherish peace and scientific development

this does in no way contradict promoting dynamic bilateral relations and cultural exchange based on mutual

respect and mutual benefit.

Distinctive features of The Three Represents

Development remains a key word in the strategic concept of The Three Represents, but what does this mean in particular - we will look into the Important Thought of The Three Represents

Broad based and Multi facetted development in accordance with Chinese Characteristics

Some might have a stereotypical view of what a socialist society should look , but still one must recognise the fact that Chinese society does develop in it’s own pace and under it’s own conditions. I.e. Present Day China is not The USSR of the 40’s, nor, DPRK in the 50’s, Cuba in the 60’s, Vietnam in the 70’s or Zimbabwe in the 80’s.

The Three Represents for one expanded the definition and scope of social development in China and given it a broad based and multi facetted character.

Representing the development trend of China's advanced productive forces

In the document I found on the web-site News from the Communist Party of China published 2006, the first main principle which is brought up is Representing the development trend of China's advanced productive forces.

and a few notes should be made on this particular idea - the distinctive features of the Three Represent originate as mentioned above from the reality of The People’s Republic of China as a large developing country going through a dynamic process of social, cultural and economical development. The Important Thought of The Three represents thus accordingly pays special attention to the development of the productive forces and does so identifying the paramount importance of this matter: “Productive forces are the most revolutionary and dynamic factors in social mode of production” Furthermore the high priority given too development of productive forces originates from decades of experience in society building as the CPC document states:

China's productive forces have grown fairly rapidly over the 50 plus years since the People's Republic was founded in 1949,

especially over the 20 plus years since the policies of reform and opening up were

introduced in the late 1970s.

However, their overall level is still much lower than in the

developed countries in the West. China must vigourously develop its productive forces and

improve its economy so that it can gain greater initiative and a more favourable position in

future competition in science and technology and solve its present economic and social

problems. “ The CPC document reflect over the need of development and stresses the importance of the development of the productive force with vigour this is one of the distinctive features of the Three represents, which as a concept of strategic thought again also stresses the need of keeping in line with Chinese realities: “The Party must ground itself on

China's realities, conform to the trend of the times, stay focused on economic development,

and make developing the productive forces its basic task” and accordingly the party must also promote broad based unity, cohesiveness and peace and stability of the multi ethnic nation.

Representing the orientation of China's advanced culture.

The Important Thought of The Three Represents also stresses the importance of culture for social development. In the field of culture what is stressed is dynamic multi facetted view of culture which corresponds well to the multiethnic character of the vastly populated People’s Republic: “socialist society means a society that develops and progresses comprehensively. A society

is truly socialist only when its economic, political and cultural development is balanced and

a good job is done in both material and spiritual civilization. Only by always representing

the orientation of China's advanced culture and working hard to develop a socialist culture

with Chinese characteristics can the CPC achieve this goal. In present-day China,

developing advanced culture means developing a national, scientific, that is geared to the needs of modernization, the world and the future.”

The Important thought of The Three Represents in correlation to promoting culture also stresses Marxist education in accordance with Socialism for Chinese Characteristics:

“The fundamental task

of socialist culture is to educate citizens to have lofty ideals, moral integrity, good education

and a strong sense of discipline. We must always take Marxism as our guide [...] At the same time, we must clearly understand that Marxism is a developing science.

It cannot be regarded as a rigid dogma; new experience and understanding gained from

practice must be constantly assimilated and used to enrich and develop Marxism.”

Representing the Fundamental interests of the Overwhelming Majority of the Chinese People.

according to The Important Thought of The Three Represents special attention must also be given to representing the fundamental interest of the overwhelming majority of the people, thus the party adheres to the slogan “from the masses, to the masses". This slogan has raised some debate among scholars of Scientific Socialism who are not used to hearing the term “the overwhelming majority of the people” as often as “the proletariat” when it comes to Scientific Socialism. In the west, as well as in some other nations.

It might seem slightly unorthodox to some but then again We must focus on trying to understand this The Three Represents in the light of the specific conditions of society building in China.

The People’s Republic of China a dynamic, Multi-ethnic and Multi dimensional society

One should keep in mind that Chinese society is not only multi ethnic but also multi dimensional in many other aspects, i.e The People's Republlic of China is not one dimentional.

In this context of this dynamic development The Three Represents as a strategic concept and guideline has nevertheless played and still plays an important role in the dynamic development of China PR, and The Important Thought of the Three Represents must be recognised understood as such regardless if it’s considered a purely proletarian concept or not.

Some interpret the focus on development as if the party totally shuns the concept of Class Struggle, however this is never mentioned in the party constitution: rather it’s made clear that. “Owing to both domestic circumstances and foreign influences, class struggle will continue to exist within a certain scope for a long time and may possibly grow acute under certain conditions” However the important thought of the Three represents was formulated for dealing with another contradiction in present day China: “At the present stage, the principal contradiction in Chinese society is one between the ever-growing material and cultural needs of the people and the low level of production” Thus under these circumstances the important thought of The Three Represents still has a vital role in to Chinese politics. As the Chinese People strive for multi-facetted development peace and stability as well as the noble cause for peaceful reunification. The CPC constitution describes The Important Thought of The Three Represents this way: “it serves as a powerful theoretical weapon for strengthening and improving Party building and for promoting self-improvement and development of socialism in China; and it is the crystallized, collective wisdom of the Communist Party of China.” and while the distinctive feature of this important thought may seem a bit unorthodox to some, one still cannot overlook the specific role the Three Represents play in the dynamic development of China.

My advice to the person who want to apprehend a better understanding of Chinese Socialism in General and The Three Represents in particular is to study this phenomenon with an open mind and remember also that political theory can never be mechanically applied without taking reality into account.

Introduction:

In my previous article I tried to demonstrate in an easily accessible way the origins of the Three Represents

If you have no specific knowledge about these guiding principle beforehand I suggest you read part I first.

before informing the reader further basic principles of The Three Represents, I will briefly answer a few common questions about The Important Thought.

Q: What is The Important Thought of The Three Represents?

A: It is a concept of three basic guiding principles for Party Building for the CPC and The China PR respectively.

I.E. They provide guidelines for Party building and society building simultaneously.

Q: Who Formulated The Important Thought of The Three Represents and When?

Former General Secretary of the CPC, Jiang Zemin Formulated The Important Thought of The Three Represents and he did so in the year of 2000.

Q: When was The Three Represents enshrined into the CPC Constitution?

A: in 2002 during the 16th CPC Congress

Q. Has The Three Represent Replace Scientific Socialism as a guiding ideology for the CPC?

A: No it has not, the constitution of recognises that the CPC is guided by Marxism - Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory as well as The Three Represents. The party maintains that The The Three Represents has not replaced Scientific Socialism as such, fact is that the constitution only makes clear that The Important Thought of The Three Represents (and I quote) “reflects new requirements for the work of the Party and state arising from the developments and changes in China and other parts of the world today and that it also “serves as a powerful theoretical weapon for strengthening and improving Party building and for promoting self-improvement and development of socialism in China.”

The Basic Principles of The Three Represents

In the West some people tend to think that Three Represents in some ways have become the new guiding ideology and thus has replaced the old one. This is not the case. I.E. The endorsing of The Three Represents, has not turned the Communist Party of China into The Three Represents Party of China. The Chinese People’s quest for Building Socialism with Chinese Characteristics has not been exchanged in favour of building “Three Representism” with Chinese Characteristics. It’s not a New ideology in that sense that it shifts away from the over all path of building socialism with Chinese Characteristics but it is a guiding principles which focuses on certain aspects of the building of socialism with Chinese Characteristics in accordance with Chinese realities.

These principles are:

* -Representing the development trend of China's advanced productive forces.

*Representing the orientation of China's advanced culture.

*Representing the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese

people.

The Three Represents thus according to the CPC flows well in accordance with China PR’s multi Facetted and Multi Ethnic society which is going through a dynamic phase of development, and the paramount tasks ahead in building socialism with Chinese Characteristics.
